What's a full bar look like? The answer will depend on who you talk to but here's a good example.

1 bottle of Bourbon (750ml)
1 bottle of Canadian Whisky
2 bottles of Gin (London Dry Gin)
1 bottle of Scotch
2 bottles of Vodka
Liquers - Benedictine, Chambord, Frangelico, Irish Cream, Triple Sec, coffee liquer and some kind of amaretto.
1 bottle each of dry and sweet vermouth
4 to 6 bottles each of dry white and dry red wines.
2 cases of beer or equivalent in assorted beers
2 6-packs each of cola, diet cola, lemon-lime soda
2 6-packs of 8 or 12 ounce cans or bottles of ginger ale and tonic water
2 1-liter bottles of club soda or seltzer
2 liters of mineral water
1 or 2 Quarts each of Orange Juice, Cranberry Juice, Grapefruit Juice, Tomato Juice
30 Pounds of ice
Plenty of bitters, grenadine and sweetened lime juice
Wine to keep in the house: a dry white and a dry red, some champagne, dry vermouth and sweet (red) vermouth.

Beer: It's good to have a small selection, preferably of microbrews and not big commercial brands. Keep some stouts or porters, brown ale, pale ale, lager and possibly some Belgian or Lambics.

Mixers to keep around the house: mineral water, club soda, seltzer, cranberry juice cocktail, lemons and limes, orange juice (fresher the better) ginger ale and lots of it, ginger beer if you can find it (only necessary for a few drinks), pineapple juice, a lemon-lime soda like 7up, tomato juice and tonic water. You may want to have some heavy cream and milk in your fridge as well.

Modifiers: Angostura bitters, Freed Brothers Orange bitters, coconut cream, grenadine, sweetened lime juice, and simple syrup. For a good simple syrup boil 1 and a half cups of sugar with 1 cup of water. This will produce a nice, thick and sweet syrup instead of a water one that you'll need more of. If you have it, use all or mostly raw or turbinado sugar. Once at a boil, lower the heat and simmer while stirring until all sugar is dissolved. This should take about 5 minutes after boiling starts. Set aside and let it cool, then use a funnel to pour into a glass bottle and insert a speed pourer in the neck. This will be good for about 2 months.

Garnishes: If you're going to have a party and serve cocktails try to keep lots of lemons, limes, oranges, celery, green olives and maraschino cherries around.
What do you need to have a good home-bar setup? Here's a list of Sprits, Liquers, Wine and Beer you should have on hand.

Spirits: Bourbon, Canadian Whisky, Gin, Irish Whiskey, Rum (white or silver rum is sweet and usually coconut flavored, you will need some good dark rum as well), Scotch, White Tequila and Vodka are the spirits you should have at home if you want to be able to create cocktails for your guests and yourself. You may also want some finer selections of brandies like a good Cognac, some select Bourbon and Whiskey or Scotch for sipping neat or straight.

Liquers you may want to stock: Anisette, Creme de Cassis, Creme de Menthe, Irish Cream Liquer, Creme de Cacao, Kahlua, Sambuca, Galliano, triple sec and a high end triple sec-style liquer like Cointreau and a b&b like Drambuie.
Cocktails are making a comeback. Be prepared.

A barspoon, a blender, shaker or boston shaker, bottle opener, citrus reamer, grater or zester, ice bucket, ice scoop, ice crusher and corkscrew are most of the items you'll need for a successful bar. You will definitely need either a jigger or a shot glass with measurement markings. You'll need a strainer if you're using a boston shaker (two cups, one larger than the other). Speed pourers insert into the necks of bottles to make pouring a lot easier. A muddler is a pestle for smashing ingredients, you can use the end of a barspoon. When using a shaker, fill it 2/3 with ice.

There are lots of glasses of different shapes and sizes. To simplify, just have some long, thin glasses for highballs and collins drinks. Short, fat glasses are great for doubles, old-fashioneds and just about anything else. You may want, but don't need, some cocktail or martini glasses. Sherry copita glasses are like tiny wine glasses and are great for sipping drinks neat. Shot glasses are good to have as well as champagne fluts and brandy snifters of any size.

You will want about 1/2 a pound of ice per person if you're having a party and try, if you have room, to chill glasses in the freezer. You can also keep glasses chilled in a cooler undre the bar or by loading a glass with ice before mixing a drink and dumping the ice before pouring.

Here are some measurements:

Dash = 1/8 teaspoon
Teaspoon = 8 dashes or 1/6 of an ounce
Tablespoon - 1/2 ounce
1 ounce can be called a Pony and = 2 Tablespoons
1 Jigger = 3 Tablespoons = 1 1/2 ounces
